Corrugated reinforcing steel is a hot rolled product, of solid section, circular or substantially circular with at least two rows of transverse corrugations uniformly distributed along its entire length.
Its purpose is to provide concrete with the required flexural and tensile strength for the concrete structure behavior in an appropriate manner in any load-depending situation (ground movement, high steel load, high winds, snow loads, earthquakes, etc...)
Also, it ensures adhesion between concrete and steel to prevent them from not behaving as a single entity, and thus fracturing the concrete.
Steel used for the manufacture of corrugated in Spain can be either welded (S) or weldable high ductility (SD). The latter grade is generally used. The resistance of these steels can be of 400 or 500 N/mm2.
In our facilities, we use exclusively B-500-SD steel, since it provides the most strength and ductility.
